Church Council

Salem's Church Council presents many of the leaders of our congregation an opportunity to do ministry in important planning and decision-making roles.

Much of our congregation life is divided into the ministries overseen by a Council Steward (who sit as voting members on the council). The links to their ministries are in the left-hand column. The stewards meet individually with their ministry workers to plan and to organize our work of ministry. The Church Council regularly meets monthly in open session and may have additional special meetings for specific tasks.

Additionally, the Church Council voting membership includes three officers who are also the congregational officers, the immediate past president and the pastors.

Non-voting members include Church Professional Staff who present reports and take part in discussion.

Salem Church Council is specifically responsible to the congregation to oversee the operation of Salem. Many of the congregational responsibilities and duties and privileges to do ministry have been designated to the Church Council and its sixteen to eighteen voting members. Each year approximately one third of the council positions are open for election. Only Salem voting members are eligible to be voting members on the Church Council.
