Salem Lutheran Church Leadership
| Salem Lutheran Church is a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). We are a part of the national church, a part of the regional church, and most intimately an individual congregation.
We are governed locally by the congregational voting members, men and women and youth who are confirmed in the faith. Congregational meetings are held quarterly, with special meetings as needed. The Church Council is authorized to act in behalf of the congregational meetings for most affairs: it meets monthly and is composed of twelve stewards who have responsibility for the lay ministries of Salem. The Church Council also includes the Officers and the Pastors. Additional persons, including church staff and lay people, may become non-voting participants as the council determines. Much of Salem's ministry begins -- and almost all of it continues -- because of the efforts of lay members of the congregation. We are a congregation of "ministers" -- servants who care for and care about God's creation. Our pastoral leadership teaches us, guides us, and leads us in ministry. If our congregation were a ship (yes, our sanctuary is shaped like an upturned boat) the rudder might be the pastoral leadership, the sails might be the lay members, and the Holy Spirit would be the wind that impels us onward in God's ministry. The Lord Jesus honors us with great privilege to be partners with him in ministry -- an awesome responsibility to see his will done and his ministry extended. |
