| Salem has had a strong Christian Education Ministry throughout its history. We believe in Bible study and we try to offer good courses so that our members and friends may gain deeper understanding of the Word.
Our Christian Education program includes Sunday School for all ages. Three and four-year-olds begin with a preschool class and we have kindergarten and grades one through six in normal Sunday School Classes. Junior High and High School Classes are operated by the Youth Ministry and Adult forum classes are a part of the Christian Education ministry. Confirmation class is a three-year program for seventh graders, eighth and ninth graders. During these years of study and service projects they learn to know the Word of God and they learn to do the Word of God. They take part in retreats, Bible study, discussion and fellowship. The program is primarily lay-led by Salem's Director of Youth Ministries who also has several excellent congregation members assisting. In addition to the normal confirmation study, the youth program that the students are a part of travels to Mexico for ministry projects, helps feed the homeless in our own community, and experiences servant-ministry in other ways. Before their Rite of Confirmation in ninth grade, they gather with their families to eat a meal and to share meaningful and often profound essays that they have written about their Christian faith. Adult Education includes Sunday morning and other Bible Study during the week. Currently we are studying Introduction to the Old Testament on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings and Topics in the Bible on Thursday mornings under the tutelage of Pastor Banke. The Health Ministry falls under the responsibility of Christian Education Ministry. Diane Haig has led us into this new ministry of education and service over the past half-dozen years to the point where we now have a shared Parish Nurse who helps our members with health issues. The Christian Education Ministry is led by Salem's Steward for Christian Education and the Education Committee. They prayerfully decide times and places and programs. If you would like to be involved in this wonderful ministry, contact Steward Jackie Ramschissel. |
