![]() About a third of our Heat team was missing for today's game Salem's Heat softball team has been playing in the Burbank summer league for several years. A few faces have come and gone (especially college-age children of the congregation who can play one year and not the next) but most faces are familiar from year to year. The league is not a Christian church league -- most teams are garnered from people's work. So Salem's good sportsmanship and enthusiastic enjoyment of play are good witnesses in the community to Christ's love. And whether we are players or fans we get to know each other in deeper and richer ways than we do merely sitting next to each other in our pews on Sunday (as sitting in the pew and sharing communion give us a deeper relationship than merely playing ball could do). Today's game (August 3, 2003) we lost to a very strong team. They took an overwhelming lead in the first inning, but after that we played a competitive game with them. Here are some pictures of us batting an fielding. Most all the pictures are of batting -- with a few infield plays showing up. The camera did not have a lens capable of spotlighting the many sterling plays of the outfield.
