Salem Lutheran Church
Spring 2002 Concert with Christ Lutheran
(Back to Page 1)
Salem Lutheran Church's basilica sanctuary is narrow and deep so our choirs were stacked in many rows (tenors and basses were actually on risers inside the communion rail) with the orchestra spread out before us. Rob Skinnell directed nearly the same concert as the afternoon one -- a difference came when our organist, Jay Brunot, played the offertory -- Choral (from Symphony No. 2) by Louise Vierne. When Hughes Huffman, Christ Lutheran's director joined the bass section, some of Christ Lutheran's members teased him, calling him traitor because his normal robe had been left behind and he wore a borrowed blue Salem robe.

Our reception following the concert was delightful (thank you Carol Anderson, Catherine Raught, and others). It was a wonderful opportunity to get to know the people we had been singing and playing with all day -- but hard work had prevented light-hearted conversation. (The pix were unfortunately erased from the camera, so just use your imagination to see how much fun we had!)

Salem's Sanctuary festooned with red paraments for Pentecost
and streamers emanating from the cross of the risen Christ.

Viewed from the soprano side, you can see the soprano soloists:
blonde Cara Clove just to the right of the harp was soloist at Salem
and just in front of her in pink, Monica Huffman,
was soloist at the Christ Lutheran concert.

Viewed from the alto side, the massed voices present
a waterfall appearance and a rich, cascading sound.

Praise God for our opportunity to sing God's praises together. The Lord blessed our hearers and blessed those of us in the choir and orchestra.
