Jr High

Our mission, which is modeled after Jesus’ words in Matthew 22, is to connect students to God and to each other.

In this passage, a man comes to Jesus and asks Him, “Which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus responds that the greatest is:

1. To love the Lord with all your heart and soul and mind

2. To love your neighbor as yourself

For us, we’re not content to simply provide activities for students.  We at Salem desire that the activities, worship services and community service we do bring about real transformation in the lives of the students involved. Our hope is that each activity and event will ultimately help students develop a stronger connection with God and with others.

Sunday Morning Youth Ministry

Join caring adults each Sunday for in depth Bible study and meaningful discussion about issues of the day that connect your life with others and the power of Jesus.

Confirmation

Confirmation classes are held on Sunday afternoon, from September through May, for 7th and 8th graders.

Basic Objectives of the Confirmation Program:

  1. To assist youth in their spiritual journey in relationship to God, other people and other creatures and all created things.
  2. To provide basic understandings of Christian faith as a basis for decision-making and the living of life in a responsible and enjoyable way.
  3. To encourage commitment to one's faith and life and the deepening of a young person's identity with the Body of Christ as we know it particularly in the Lutheran church.
  4. To encourage and provide opportunity for participation in the life of the congregation and to experience ways of giving service and justice to people in the community and organizations which serve persons with special needs, locally and beyond.
  5. To give youth familiarity with and practical use of the Bible, the Small Catechism of Martin Luther and the Lutheran Book of Worship.
  6. To offer opportunity for youth to make a personal affirmation of faith through the Rite of Confirmation.

Special Activities

Our middle school youth take trips, attend retreats, go bowling and go to movies as well as perform service projects in and around Los Angeles. We annually go to the LA Midnight Mission to serve meals to the needy. Please check out the calendar and see what’s coming up.
