- The largest Lutheran body in South America is in Brazil (717,000 members in 1,800 congregations) while in Central America it is El Salvador (15,000 in 60 churches).
- ELCA Disaster Response has provided emergency relief aid to the victims of the earthquakes in Haiti (Jan.) and Chile (Feb.).
- There are 36 ELCA mission personnel serving in 14 nations in this region, supplying ministry-building skills plus ELCA grants for leadership development.
- The 2009 ELCA budget for Latin America and the Caribbean was $2.5 million.
- Lutheran churches in this region provide a holistic ministry that serves the community, blending Word and Sacrament with education and health ministries.
