Knitting Club
On October 25, 2006 the knitting club was invited by Jeffrey Close, Senior VP of Glendale Memorial Hospital to tour the NICU (preemie nursery) where the hats that the group has knitted were presented. A delicious lunch was offered and the group was treated to free flu shots..
Jeffery Close, SR. VP Glendale Memorial Hospital: told Salem's Knitting Club, "As you know, in many ways our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is more about 'high touch' than high tech. Simple things, such as keeping the temperature of our hospital's tiniest patients regular, is extremely important. Preventing the lose of body heat through the top of their head is surprisingly critical, so the caps you and your friends knit become instrumental in the well being of these babies. As we discussed, keeping the complications to a minimum during an infant's early development is absolutely critical to the baby's ability to fully develop and lead a normal healthy life. The baby caps you knit play a very important role in these earliest stages of that long process." Those wishing to learn how to make these hats, please contact Carla at Salem Lutheran Church.
