Health
The Lutheran Health Ministry of the Foothills provides a caring, holistic Christian ministry incorporating body, mind and spirit to promote the health and well-being of the community.
LHMF is a non-profit tax exempt charitable organization under Section 501©3 of the Internal Revenue Code, and a designated Area Ministry of the Southwest California Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). The LHMF Board meets every other month on the fourth Tuesday.
Salem’s Health Ministry Cabinet was formed in January, 1995 when we signed a “Memorandum of Understanding” with Glendale Adventist Medical Center for the purpose of developing a Parish Nurse Program. Our Health Cabinet sponsored a Health Fair, Health Forums, Screenings, Blood Drives, etc. while holding regular monthly meetings with four other Lutheran Churches with the goal of forming a co-op together for the purpose of hiring a Parish Nurse. This became a reality in February, 1997 when Lutheran Health Ministries of the Foothills, Inc. was formed. God answered our prayers in 2000 as we had enough funding to hire a Parish Nurse for Lutheran Health Ministries. The churches of LHMF are First Lutheran Church, Lutheran Church in the Foothills, Salem Lutheran Church, St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church and Solheim Lutheran Home is our fiscal agent. The ministry has continued to g row and our staff includes Elsie Ford, R.N., Parish Nurse, Pastor John Rieck, Visitation, and Steve Seekins, Fund Development.
Salem’s Health Cabinet gives ongoing support to LHMF’s programs and fundraising. The Health Cabinet meets every other month on the first Tuesday. The health cabinet members are Edna Franett, Diane Haig, Louisa Jensen, Carol Lee, Karen Smallfoot, Pam Bernier and Shirley Youngquist.-
