Family Promise Looking for Volunteers
A new ecumenical program has begun in Glendale called “Family Promise”. Host congregations take turns providing meals and facilities for overnight stay for 3-4 homeless families at a time.
During the day the families spend time at a Day Center (if not in school or at work).
The goal of the program is to help families until they are able to find permanent housing and/or work.
Family Promise is in need of volunteers at the Day Center and to help with driving transport vans. The Day Center is open every day (weekdays and weekends) from about 7 am to about 5:15 pm. The Network Director needs help with clerical tasks, research of social programs, and someone to be there when she has to leave during the day, among other things. They also need someone to send the guests off to the congregations in the evenings and great the guests when they arrive from the congregations in the morning on the weekends. Drivers are needed in the mornings at about 6:30 am and the afternoons at about 4:30 pm.
For more information and/or to volunteer, contact Howard Fallman, Family Promise Board Member, at (213) 739-8373 or howardf@car.org.
